DISSOLUTION OF THE CAN (Comunidad Andina de Naciones)
Is it Colombian fault?
One of the most important news yesterday was about the dissolution of the CAN and how, Hugo Chavez, president of Venezuela, blames Colombia to be guilty of this situation. He considers that the Free Trade Agreement that Colombia with United States negotiated and accepted the last month will disturb CAN performance, because of new arancelarians politics and preferences.
But, I think it’s not really the reason.
Venezuela, as we know has a relative economic power, because petroleum, but not a politic one in the continent, neither in the region. All the strategies he’s putting on the table are created in order to adquire country partners against United States influence in South America.
Chavez has a deep fixation with United States that is not taking a good direction. And it will be the same as long as Venezuela owns petroleum reserves that obviously are not eternal.
Considering the ideological tendency right now in Latin America, where most of the countries are managed from the left-democratic wing, is evident that there’s a resistance. But that only means that those countries have politic autonomy and are playing their game apart.
The great dilemma is, that at the same moment, Venezuela is becoming part of MERCOSUR, the most compacted trade boundary in Latin America, constituted by Brazil, Argentina, Paraguay and Uruguay.
So? What’s the problem with our Free Trade Agreement? I’m not saying that’s the best of the best and I completely agree with it. But it’s a Colombian issue!
To conclude I want to give an advice, explain something and be clear in another thing :
1. The Advice:
Venezuela should invest in education, industry, health; not just buying doubts of countries.
2. The Explanation:
There are still 5 years left to be out of CAN. It won’t be easy. And in five years, I hope we will be better. ( I will be working, and doing something to contribute, so relax my friends)
3. And be clear on this:
I see The Free Trade Agreement with United States as an opportunity to be more competitive in the international market. We have to change the weaknesses into opportunities, start to change our minds and educate ourselves. It will be hard, BUT GOODS THINGS COME AFTER BIG EFFFORTS.
That was the political post of Lucia Torres.

If I don’t find any it will mean that I own the TRUTH. :)
